The Signature Drive into Istria

Southwest from Zagreb, the route climbs into the Gorski Kotar; a mountain range of dense pine forests and clean highland air that most guests do not expect on the way to the Adriatic. The road descends through Rijeka and the Kvarner Bay, where the sea appears for the first time, before crossing onto the Istrian peninsula from the northeast. The approach into Istria from this direction feels different - the interior comes first, with the hilltop silhouettes of Motovun and Grožnjan visible above the Mirna valley before the coast reveals itself.

Guests heading to Rovinj arrive at the lower harbour entrance on the south side of town. Those heading to Meneghetti Wine Hotel in Bale follow the coast road south from Poreč, the estate at the end of an unmarked lane off the main road. Guests staying in Opatija are reached earlier on the route, just past Rijeka, for anyone combining the Kvarner Riviera with Istria, this is the natural entry point.

Heading onward to Istria? We handle private transfers to the region's top hotels and can add a private Poreč tour.

This is a private transfer. There are no other passengers, no fixed group departure times, and no waiting for a coach to fill. The vehicle leaves when you are ready.

Make Your Zagreb to Istria Airport Transfer a Part of the Experience

Three hours from Croatia's capital to the Istrian coast, entirely within one country. Here is what Bel'Istria makes possible on the way.

No borders, no stops. The simplest drive of any Istrian airport

Unlike Venice, Trieste and Ljubljana, the entire journey from Zagreb stays within Croatia. No border crossings, no passport checks, no spot checks. For guests arriving from long-haul connections who have already cleared immigration, this is the cleanest drive to Istria on the map.

Stop in Motovun on the way in

The hilltop town of Motovun sits in the Mirna valley directly on the approach to central Istria from Zagreb. If time allows, Bel'Istria can make the stop; thirty minutes in the old town, a coffee with views over the truffle forests below, and back on the road to Rovinj or Poreč. It adds almost nothing to the journey and gives guests a first taste of the Istrian interior before they reach the coast.

Local knowledge that is not in any guidebook

Bel'Istria drivers know Istria from the inside out. Which entrance Grand Park Hotel uses for arriving guests, how to reach Meneghetti's unmarked lane outside Bale, and which road into Rovinj avoids the coastal traffic on a summer Saturday afternoon. If you want a recommendation on the drive, ask. The answer will be specific.
